WHEN DOES GETTING OLD GET OLD?
I really don’t know the answer to that question. Perhaps for some it might be when they finish their bucket list. I really didn’t have a bucket list until a couple years ago when my list was created with one item on it. In a future post I will write about it.
For some, getting old gets old when their physical well being is compromised or they are challenged at an old age by mourning the loss of their life long partner. Everyone is different.
I will always remember my Grandmother who died at 91. She was the matriarch of Steubenville ,Ohio where I grew up. She would attend many churches and synagogues and hospitals. She was known as “Grandma” Stern and always carried individually wrapped hard candy and gave it to folks to cheer them up. She was fiercely independent. Every Sunday her 3 sons would religiously visit her at her apartment. I went with my father. She was very spirited and remained in good health absent some eye issues. In the later years I came home from college and would visit her and she would tell me. ” I’m ready!” ” He can take me anytime”. She figured it out.
I envision myself someday saying the same thing. But now isn’t my time but let me tell what is getting old.
I have been in this SCA HOA fight for better governance for two years and in 23 days we will either have a new board majority or not. I hope we do so if you or your neighbor have not voted yet please vote for John Marshall, Ben Leibson and Forrest Quinn. I will be moving on for the most part. Occasionally I will address financial issues like assessments, Reserves, restaurant and budget including payroll.
So what’s next for me? My wonderful kids and my new love all know I’ve got to be doing something. So I am going to continue my blog writing about my adventures in life until it gets old or I get too old. I turn 80 this year and coming up for me is lots of travel. My new love( her name is Rhonda) is a treasure and I am a lucky guy We are off to Italy in June starting in Milan then to Lake Maggiore, Lake Como in Bellagio, Palermo and Venice. She has never been to Europe. Then my 39 year old son gets married in Vegas in late June. In late July off to Alaska to bring home fish and after Labor Day off to Coronado California and The Del. Then off to Cancun Club Med in February to watch the Super Bowl and enjoy Valentines Day like we did this year. Yes I am truly fortunate and grateful for my blessings.
I believe this new board majority if we get them elected will do an outstanding job in returning SCA to sound financial and administrative leadership by fixing the woes of the theater, the restaurant, the reserves, the payroll and exercising common sense to keep assessments as low as possible. Please vote. May 1 is coming!
Until next time….Robert
